Carina Franck, Kalahari Spa
Carina Franck is the visionary thinker behind two of South Africa’s pioneering brands; Kalahari Spa and Nimue Skin Technology. Kalahari was launched in early 2010 and is successfully represented in 16 international countries; Germany, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Malta, Australia, Namibia and Southern Africa. Nimue Skin Technology is recognised as one of the most progressive Skin care brands in both local and international markets and has expanded into 30 countries since launching in 1994.
Carina grew up on a farm in the Kalahari Desert and her aim is to preserve the precious heritage of the Khoi San people along with job creation and social upliftment. Kalahari has pushed the eco boundaries with regards to the use of naturally harvested botanical ingredients and Carina and her team are sensitive towards the deserts vulnerable ecosystems.
The project closest to Carina’s heart is that of the Kopan Pre School where, through the platform of Kalahari, Carina has been able to give these small children a head start in life. The culture and heritage of the Khoi San has been reinstated by the teachings of one of the last remaining Nu speaking people and Kalahari sponsors her efforts along with many more.
Carina believes that personal philosophies should not be complicated. They should be a natural part of a person and a mere balance of what you love to do and what you would like to change. Carina’s personal philosophy is to bring compassion back into an impersonal beauty industry. “I know I can make an impact on the lives of others by reminding them of the value in showing kindness and respect towards others.”
Carina created the perfect opportunity to merge humanity with a unique product range like Kalahari. With her access to a strong influential network of woman around the world and through Kalahari Spa she plants the message of hope. Carina believes in the compassion of humanity and Kalahari provides a tangible medium for so many people to make a difference. “To give is one of the most important gifts you can give to yourself” says Carina.
Often in life the simplest things are the most memorable. “I feel privilege to have grown up in tandem with nature, where the magical desert landscape formed an integral part of my most vivid child hood memories. I developed a deep connection with the local Khoi San families, which are referred to as ‘the forgotten people’. The Khoi San believe that if we all share, we will all have enough and this value was ingrained within me at an early age. It has been a surreal journey watching the seed of a dream flourish into what Kalahari has become today. If your dream does not scare you …your dream is not big enough!”.
Carina Franck created Kalahari to contribute towards the lives of several families supported by its initiatives. Carina has an incredible focus on charitable projects and her hard work and dedication inspires and touches the lives of many. Carina has now combined her humanitarian efforts with Mnet cares, the largest national broadcaster across Africa, to further promote the many charitable initiatives undertaken by Kalahari. Through this partnership Kalahari provides a supportive network to impact on the lives of others in a profound way.
